Our risk assessment carried out before re-opening Afterglow in accordance with Government guidance. 
To consider the risks associated with re-opening Afterglow, 35 High Street South, Olney, MK46 4AA in the light of the Coronavirus pandemic 
To implement Government guidance to carry out a risk assessment 
To plan and put in place appropriate safety measures in order to become Covid Secure 
There is a risk of spreading the virus through possible transmission between infected customers, staff and traders 
There is a risk of transmitting the virus via surfaces and stock after contact from infected people 
There is a risk to staff in being at the shop in order to work 
1. Develop cleaning procedures: 
• Wash hands frequently 
• Provide hand sanitiser - WHO approved sanitiser and dispensers available at entrance (sanitisation station) and till point 
• Increase surface cleaning including floors 
• Disinfect frequently touched surfaces at regular intervals throughout the day, eg till, card machine, light switches, door handles, alarm keypad, sanitisation station etc using alcohol wipes 
• Discourage handling of items and clean items which are touched and not purchased, or quarantine those items which cannot be cleaned for 72 hours 
• Reduce opening hours to allow time for thorough cleaning 
• Open on fewer days to allow 72 hours quarantine time after Saturday (busiest day) and to reduce risk to staff of being at the shop 
2. Observe social distancing: 
• Put up sign outside shop outlining the Covid Secure safety measures in place 
• Allow only 2 people in the shop at any time (customers and traders) 
• Have floor stickers in place marking out 2 metre distance points 
• Encourage a one-way system around the shop (clockwise) with floor arrow 
• Arrange re-stocking by traders outside opening hours and by appointment 
• Offer customers private shopping time by appointment if desired 
• Keep door open if weather permits for ventilation 
• Discourage queuing outside the shop 
• Close shop on Tuesdays in addition to Sundays and Mondays (for a trial period) to process online orders and update website, thereby offering customer an alternative to physical shopping 
3. Protection of staff 
• Sneeze screen in place as 2m social distancing not possible at till 
• Use face masks and have gloves available to handle stock 
• Frequent handwashing and use of alcohol wipes on surfaces 
• Hand sanitiser point at till 
• Encourage use of contactless card payment, discourage cash 
• Encourage customers to bring their own bags

We are following Government guidance to be Covid-19 Secure. Please help us: 
Don’t come in if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of Covid-19 
Only 2 people to be in the shop at any time (excluding staff) 
Maintain social distancing by following our floor stickers and one-way system 
Please avoid handling products as much as possible and use hand sanitiser 
Use contactless payment if possible and bring your own bag 
Avoid queuing – private shopping slots are available by appointment
